Perry's early attempts to become an international star did not succeed. Perry had been signed to two different record labels, but she resigned before she released any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The track that was the title track was a cheerfully flippant single that garnered little or no interest. Perry made more of a splash in the following months with her single "I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a rough electro-pop beat. It quickly sparked controversy, as critics criticized it for promoting same-sex relations as well as others argued that the explicit scenario that it depicted was a sly way to appeal to men's fantasies about sexuality in females. I Kissed A Girl's mix of sensuality, polished music and a catchy chorus helped it become a top-ten hit in a variety of nations. This led to The album, The One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. The sharp and bouncy second single was also well-loved. The album that Perry created in large portion sold over three million copies.
